CanCan’s heating services encompass installations, repairs, and the maintenance of boilers, radiators, thermostats, immersion heaters, and underfloor heating.
Heating services and installation
Our services include: appliance installation, repair and servicing, boiler installation, fault finding and repairs, central heating installation, repair and servicing, gas leak detection, repairs and certificates, radiator bleeding, installation and repair and power flushes (a deep clean to ensure your radiators heat up properly and eliminate cold spots which can increase the life of the whole system, keeping heating bills down and reducing the risk of breakdowns). With regards to power flushes, when sludge builds up in your radiators, it can greatly affect how they heat your rooms. Caused by the gradual corrosion of water on the metal parts of your central heating system over many years, this sludge or ‘magnetite’ reduces the amount of heat transferred from your radiators. Magnetite tends to settle within radiators where the flow rate is lower. In turn, your boiler must work longer and harder for a radiator to reach the temperature on your thermostat. A system power flush clears this sludge away, helping to restore the efficiency of your radiators so you can save on your energy bills.
Heating repairs and maintenance
Maintenance includes conducting regular checks to ensure systems are running efficiently and safely and repairs includes diagnosing and repairing faults in heating systems such as a faulty radiator, pressure loss, or ignition failure.
We offer boiler breakdown and error code repairs, new boiler and appliance installation, radiator installs and repairs, underfloor heating installation, Gas safety certificates, no hot water or heating problems and leak detection & restoring system pressure.
If you smell gas or want to report a gas leak, there is a free National Gas Emergency Helpline which you can call 24 hours a day on 0800 111 999.
Boiler safety checks
We can also perform safety checks and issuing of Gas Safety Certificates which are all stored in your CanCan account. Gas safety is a vital way of protecting against the dangers of a faulty or non-compliant gas installation. If you’re a landlord of a tenanted residential or commercial property, then you’re legally required to renew your gas safety certificate each year. While this certificate isn’t legally required for homeowners, it is highly recommended. In each case, only Gas Safe-registered engineers are qualified to carry out these gas safety checks for you.
Heating system upgrades
We can also upgrade existing heating systems with more energy-efficient solutions. So whether your gas boiler needs replacing, you need to save space by installing a new combi boiler, you want a more energy-efficient model, or you’re looking at how to integrate low-carbon heating options, we’re here to help.
Boiler installations
When it comes to gas boiler installations, we know that everyone’s needs are different. You may prefer a like-for-like replacement, have an increased demand for heating and hot water, or you may wish to supplement a low-carbon solution (such as a heat pump) with a combi boiler or direct hot water cylinder. That’s why our boiler fitters start by assessing your existing central heating system and discussing your heating needs and budget. This ensures your brand-new boiler will be cost-effective, can heat your space efficiently, and caters to your hot water needs now and in the future. The type of boiler we recommend may depend on number of bathrooms and amount of hot water being used, space available, budget, control features (e.g. remote control), integration with renewable or low-carbon systems.
Boiler services
We can also perform a regular boiler service. It's recommended to have your boiler serviced annually to ensure it's working safely and efficiently, saving money in the long run. Much like a car, boilers are complex machines requiring maintenance and should be regularly serviced by an expert. An annual boiler service helps to keep your system working properly, running efficiently, and it will help protect against breakdowns. Boiler servicing also tends to be a condition of the manufacturer’s warranty, so arranging a service could save you from having to pay out if repairs are needed. Although a boiler service is recommended every 12 months, you should arrange a service sooner if your boiler’s working but getting intermittent faults, making unusual noises, or if there are other causes for concern. During the service, your engineer will carry maintenance checks for leaks, component wear and tear, and problems with the gas flue. Our specific boiler service includes checking and adjusting for optimal gas pressure and flow, performing a flue combustion test, inspecting your boiler and controls, visually checking for corrosion and leaks, removing and cleaning the burner (when necessary), checking the pilot burner and probes/cables, cleaning the heat exchanger and flue ways (where required), cleaning out the boiler condensate trap (when required), checking for correct ventilation, the safety devices and the electrical connections, running the boiler to check flue effectiveness and functionality and for gas leaks.
Central heating surveys
Central Heating Surveys For Homeowners & Homebuyers: The last thing you want is to buy a property, only to find out there’s trouble with the heating system. With a central heating survey (also known as the homebuyer’s or pre-purchase central heating survey), you’ll know what you’re getting before you buy. We perform a visual assessment of your system and provide a report detailing its condition and ability to meet your hot water needs. In the event that changes or upgrades are needed, estimate costs are provided. Customers sometimes use this information to negotiate a reduction in the sale price of a property they’re buying to offset the cost of these changes. We’ll look for visible signs of existing and potential issues, e.g. if a radiator’s too small to reliably heat a room, evidence of water leaks or corrosion etc. All of our gas engineers are Gas Safe registered, making them fully qualified to perform these checks on your behalf. A central heating survey is a visual inspection, and no physical checks or changes will be made. If physical checks are needed or you have heating or hot water issues, we recommend booking in a reactive visit instead at the half-hour rate (one-hour minimum).
